Dr. Michael McHan brings nearly two decades of expertise in collegiate public speaking and competitive forensics to the RISEOne executive team. Renowned for coaching top-tier speakers in both national and international speech and debate competitions, he also serves as an executive public speaking coach for C-level professionals and leads communication development workshops for organizations and leadership teams.

In addition to his role at RISEOne, Dr. McHan is President of the International Forensics Association, Assistant Director of the award-winning speech and debate team at Grossmont College, and a professor of communication across several San Diego-area colleges. Over the course of his career, he has trained thousands of individuals—students, professionals, and executives alike—to become more intentional, confident, and effective communicators.

Dr. McHan’s passion for communication is complemented by a lifelong commitment to contemplative and holistic practices. He has led multiple study abroad programs, including immersive experiences in Thailand focused on intercultural communication, Buddhism, meditation, and somatic practices. As a certified yoga instructor and former health and fitness business owner, he deeply understands the connection between mental and physical well-being and communication effectiveness.

At this stage in his career, Dr. McHan is focused on sharing the transformative power of self-awareness and communication. He believes communication competence begins at the subconscious level—where self-reflection and introspection uncover the origins of communication patterns. By identifying and reshaping these patterns, individuals can build a new foundation for intentional, purpose-driven communication that yields more meaningful and impactful outcomes.
